If not having enough time is your issue, we have options. Join
us for an Ala Carte Class during the following hours:
Weekdays:
11 to 1, 1 to 3 and 3 to

Most
classes last for 1 to 2 hours. Advance reservation is
required.

Intro to Knitting: In the Bag - $15
Learn the knit stitch while making a felted bag. It can
be used in multiple ways or give it as a useful gift.
Techniques Taught:
· Knitted Cast On
· Knit Stitch (K)
· Picking up stitches around the bottom of the bag
· Knitting in the round
· Changing yarn colors (stripes)
· Carrying two yarns together
· I-cord bind off
· Making I-cord handles
Materials:
· Bulky wool yarn suitable for felting - 2 to 4 skeins

Beyond the Bag - $20
Practice your knitting skills and learn how to purl while making
a hat and/or scarf.
Techniques Taught:
· Review of the knitted Cast On and Knit Stitch

· Bulky yarn - 1 skein for hat, 2 skeins for scarf

Baa Baa Basics - $20
Learn the basics of knitting or use this class as a refresher
course by learning cast on, bind off, the knit stitch, the
purl stitch,
increasing and decreasing - these skills are required skills
for all other Ala Carte classes.

Basic Sweaters Cardi or Crew: $40
Learn the basics of knitting a top down raglan cardi.
Techniques Taught:
· Knitting in the round, finishing, increases, decreases
Materials:
· Worsted weight yarn - 1800 yds of a main color (MC)
· Size 8 needle
Tank or Vest: $25 to $30
Learn to knit a basic tank top for summer or a vest for those cooler
days.
Techniques Taught:
· Basic stockinette, increases, decreases, finishing, pick-ups, knitting
in the round.
Materials:
· Worsted weight yarn - 800 yds of a main color (MC)

Basic Hats: $20
Learn to make a basic hat in the round or on double points.

As with our knitting classes, we are offering an Introduction to
Weaving, a Weaving Series or individual classes Ala Carte. Looms
are available for in-house rental and or purchase at the Knitting
Habitat.

1-2 hours per session. Can be scheduled on Friday afternoons, Saturdays
or by appointment with Ann. Individual sessions are $20. Students
are required to have their own loom or they may rent one from Knitting

Introduction to Weaving
4 hours in 2 sessions; $40 class fee; 2 week loom rental
$30; approximate material cost $40
Prerequisites: None
Students will learn the basics of warping and weaving on a
rigid heddle loom. The focus of the class will be on how to
set up
the loom, warp the loom and weave a scarf or runner in plain
weave.
The first session (3 hrs) will focus on preparing and warping
the loom.
At the end of the session students will begin weaving their
project. Students will have two weeks to complete their project.
At the
final session, students will learn how to remove their weaving
from the
loom and some finishing techniques. Students can bring their
own loom or rent one of the shop looms. If a loom is rented,
the rental
is ONLY for two weeks.
Dates:
Thursday: 2/4 1 to 4 pm and 2/18 from 1 to 2 pm
Saturday: 2/6 10am to 1pm and 2/20 from 10am to 11am

Introduction to Card Weaving - NO LOOM
REQUIRED: $20
Prerequisites: None
Materials: Weaving cards or playing cards that you are willing
to punch holes in, yarn for weaving
Card weaving creates a warp faced fabric that like Inkle
weaving is ideal for belts, bands, straps, narrow scarves.
Cards with
holes in them are used to produce the sheds for the warp
to go through.
By controlling the threading and turning of the cards various
patterns can be produced.

Introduction to Finger Weaving - NO
LOOM REQUIRED: $20
Prerequisites: None
Materials: Piece of styrofoam, push pins, a short piece of
dowl, yarn for weaving
Finger weaving is a Native American tradition. Generally
a warp faced fabric is produced. However it is possible
to producce
a balanced
fabric. As the name inplies the fingers are used to produce
the
woven fabric. This technique is best for small portable
projects such as
bands and straps.

Designing for Handwoven Garments
2 hours in 2 sessions, $20 class fee
Prerequisites: Students must be able to warp and weave
plain weave on their own loom
Materials for first class: pattern for the garment they
want to make
During the first session the students will review their
garment pattern, determine the dimensions and amount
of fabric to
weave, determine
placement of any special design elements, prepare the
weaving draft based upon this information, and calculate
the amount
of warp and
weft materials required. They will then weave the fabric
per their draft using their own looms. When the fabric
is completed,
the
second session will teach them how to prepare, cut and
sew their garment.

Weaving Series - NOTE STUDENTS CAN JOIN THE CLASS AT
ANY POINT AND BEGIN THE SERIES.
6 hours in 5 sessions; $60 class fee
Prerequisites:
Introduction to weaving. Students must be able to warp
their loom and weave plain weave. Students must have
their own
loom and have
it warped prior to the first class session
Recommended Book: Hands on Rigid Heddle Weaving by
Betty Linn Davenport
Students will learn the various patterns and weave
structures which can be woven on a rigid heddle loom
or floor loom.
Students will
learn how to read pattern drafts. In addition, the
following list of techniques and patterns will be taught.
At each session a new technique or pattern will be taught. Students
will practice the technique on their
own and
at the next session
can review what they have learned before learning the
next technique.
Session 1: warp floats and weft floats
Session 2: weaver controlled lace patterns - Leno,
Brooks Bouquet, Danish Medallion and Spanish Lace
Session 3: inlay techniques - simple inlay, wrapped

Tapestry Series - NOTE STUDENTS CAN JOIN THE CLASS
AT ANY POINT AND BEGIN THE SERIES. IF DESIRED STUDENTS

SINGLE SESSION
OF A PARTICULAR TECHNIQUE.
4 hours in 3 sessions; $40 class fee
Prerequisites: Introduction to weaving. Students
must be able to warp their loom and weave plain weave.
Students
must have
their
own loom and have it warped prior to the first class
session.
This type
of weaving can be done on a rigid heddle loom.
Recommended Book: Tapestry Weaving by Kirsten Glasbrook
In tapestry weaving, only the weft shows. All of
the warp threads are hidden. This allows the weaver
to
create pictures
in the
weaving. Students in the tapestry series will learn
the techniques of weft
faced weave structures or tapestry weaving. Students
will learn how to read tapestry pattern drafts. In
addition, the following
techniques
and patterns will be taught: loom controlled weft
patterns, slits and interlaced joins, hatching, and
weaving shapes.
At each session
a new technique or pattern will be taught. Students
will practice the technique on their own and at the
next session
will review
what they have learned before learning the next technique.

Face Weaving) : $20
Prerequisites: None
Students must have their own rigid heddle or inkle
loom
In warp faced weaving, only the warp shows. The weft
threads are hidden. This produces are strong fabric
that is suited

bands. Many woven bands are warp faced and woven
on an inkle loom. Students will learn how to warp
and
inkle
loom or rigid
heddle
loom to create a warp faced weave structure. Students

or a rigid heddle loom for inkle weaving. Students
must have their own rigid heddle or inkle loom. Students will learn

Spinning Classes:
Introduction to Drop Spindle Spinning : $20
2 hours in 1 sessions; $20 class fee + $5 for materials
Prerequisites:
Students must have their own spindle
Students will become familiar with their spindles
while learning how to make a basic single ply yarn.

afternoons, Saturdays and by appointment with Ann

Important Notice: Due to our strategy to insure equal class participation
and instruction, we are currently limiting class size to 3 students.
Please call to make your reservation in advance to insure your
seat in class. We do not rent looms or other equipment to students
who
are not apart of the Weaving Workshops at Knitting Habitat. Also,
students must use yarns and equipment recommended by the instructor
to insure success. We do not guarantee product or equipment purchased
from another establishment.
REFUND POLICY FOR WEAVING:
Due to our instructor commitment, no refunds/store credit are accepted
for missed class participation or cancelled reservation. No refund/store
credit is given for looms, yarns and equipment, purchase or rental.
